Elon Musk, the owner of X, has announced that the bold and italics font will no longer be displayed prominently in the main timeline due to their “excessive use”. The billionaire said that the fonts are intended for use in cases where users need to emphasise specific parts of their posts.
“Due to immediate and excessive use of bold font on 𝕏, it will be removed from view in the main timeline. You will have to click on post details to see anything in bold. My eyes are bleeding,” Musk said in a post on X.
“Same goes for italics and any other formatting. They are being abused for engagement farming,” he said in a separate post.
The change is effective immediately, which means that any text formatted in bold will be hidden from direct view on the main feed. Reportedly, this update applies across all platforms – web, iPhones and Android apps.
As per news agency ANI, previously, X only allowed bold and italic text formatting for web users but the feature’s expansion to mobile platforms led to a notable increase in its usage. The platform aims to enhance the visual experience for its users and maintain the integrity of the platform’s content, ANI added.
Ban on X in Brazil may be lifted soon
In an X-related news, a Brazilian judge has ordered the unblocking of the bank accounts of X in the country after the social media platform agreed to pay more than $5 million in fines.
As per a ruling by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, Brazil’s central bank will unblock X’s bank accounts so it can receive transfers and “immediately make payment of the fines indicated.” X had informed the court it would pay fines to the tune of some $5.2 million, according to the ruling.
