Before a brutal heat wave hit New York City, raising real-feel temperatures above 100 degrees, WWD made the most out of a cloudy day in Brooklyn to shoot the best of this season’s resortwear.
No sunshine? No problem. No trip booked to an exotic locale? Who says you can’t dress like you’re already on vacation right in your own neighborhood?
To slip into that mindset, take swim pieces out for a spin on dry land. Here, WWD style director Alex Badia did exactly that, elevating a clam-shell bikini top by Montce by pairing it with Diotima’s hand-crocheted maxiskirt for an island-meets-industrial-city vibe. Topping it off is the “It” shoe style of the moment: thong sandals. But make no mistake about it. This leather Hermès pair isn’t just any run-of-the-mill flip-flop, so don’t get them wet.

Lingerie needn’t be confined to the bedroom either, especially when it’s as sweet and idyllic as Chloé’s ruffled lace bra and matching bloomers. A “fantasy of summer,” is how creative director Chemena Chamali described her state of mind while designing the French house’s collection. For a less innocent take, a patchwork slip from Moschino — thrown over a slouchy pair of men’s jeans — channels a bit of ‘90s grunge attitude.
Equally playful is Miu Miu’s remix on prep with clashing Varsity stripes layered on top of each other. “Wearing things in the wrong way,” Miuccia Prada told WWD of her modus operandi, “it was a way of being spontaneous.”
Too hot to fuss with all that styling? Keep to a bare-bones look — as with Alaïa’s second-skin tube top and balloon-waist jeans. And max out on one major accessory, a chunky gold cuff by Sportmax does just the trick.
When one just isn’t enough, try two — belts, that is.
