Hulu has churned out some quality original series over the years, from the steamy drama “Tell Me Lies” to the political thriller “Paradise” to the mystery comedy “Only Murders in the Building.” But what will happen to the shows when the Hulu app shuts down?

That’s right, the standalone Hulu app will be phased out in 2026 as the streaming platform merges with Disney+. No Hulu originals will be harmed in the process. They’ll be available on the unified Disney+ and Hulu app, and it will still be possible to purchase a standalone Hulu subscription or a standalone Disney+ subscription.

According to Disney CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston, the integrated app will create an “improved consumer experience.” The Disney execs have promised “tremendous choice, convenience, quality, and enhanced personalization” for subscribers, per Variety.

Even before the Hulu app disappears, Disney+ users will begin to see a Hulu tab on their app, as well as a “For You” tab that includes recommendations for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. Even customers who aren’t paying for a Disney+ bundle that includes Hulu will see the Hulu tab.

“It’s to give people a bit of a taste as to what the breadth of our catalog offers, and encourages you to upsell into a bundle that makes sense for you,” Jason Wong, Disney’s Senior Vice President of Product Management, told Fast Company this month.

Disney became Hulu’s majority stakeholder back in 2019, before taking full ownership of the streaming platform in July.

An exact date for the shutdown of the standalone Hulu app has not yet been announced. Currently, the Disney+ and Hulu bundle costs $10.99 a month. The premium version, which is ad-free and allows viewers to download content to watch offline, is $19.99 a month.
