Every year, the world’s biggest tennis stars, from Carlos Alcaraz to Coco Gauff, convene in Queens for the US Open and a chance to win a Grand Slam title. It has become an increasingly popular cultural sports event in the city (surpassing one million visitors last year) and a hub for attracting celebrities, New Yorkers, and tennis enthusiasts from around the globe.
The intersection between fashion and tennis has grown steadily in tandem. In 2022, Gucci signed an ambassadorship with four-time Grand Slam winner Jannik Sinner; Bottega Veneta inked a deal with Lorenzo Musetti in July, and Miu Miu’s upcoming collaboration with Coco Gauff is set to launch on September 10.
The tournament typically coincides with New York Fashion Week, but due to a shift in the fashion week schedule this year, the tournament now takes place immediately before, serving as a kind of pre-show, as guests tend to wear their best tennis-inspired attire. Unlike Wimbledon, where players adhere to a strict dress code and guests tend to follow suit in head-to-toe whites, the US Open is more flexible. While there is no dress code, the vibe is more preppy and polished than casual. And there is a limit on bag size, so we’ll steer you toward sizes that are permitted.
