Papas is a family-owned business founded in 1966 and currently has a number of “casual dining and quick service restaurants” across England and Scotland.
The new pubs are described as “beloved community spaces, thoughtfully located outside the traditional high street, yet right at the heart of where people live, work, and gather,” according to the group’s director, Andrew Papas.
Andrew has also shared that the new Wetherspoon partnership “is about more than just expansion; it’s about restoration, revitalisation, and reinvestment in our local communities”.
@couponkiduk Save 50% at Wetherspoons by doing THIS? 👀👇🏻 Did you know Wetherspoons pubs offer different pricing at each restaurant? This can even happen in the exact same town, if there are more than one Spoons! One could be cheaper than the other! For an example, as a Wetherspoons in Nottingham – an all day brunch was £9.72 at one venue. At another Spoons half a mile away (13 minute walk), it was £4.91 for the exact same food! That’s nearly 50% off the cost! Have a look on the Wetherspoons app before you go, if you have 2 or more restaurants in your town. You might find one is cheaper for the food that you want. You might be able to walk to another one for a cheaper meal! Good to get some post food exercise in too! I post tips and deals like this every week, follow if you want to see more! #Wetherspoons #Spoons #RestaurantHacks #RestaurantTricks #Moneysavingtips #ShoppingHacks #CouponKing #LoudBudgeting ♬ original sound – Jordon Cox – The Coupon King
Wetherspoon to open 15 new UK pubs
The first pub to open its doors will be named The Hykeham Manor, located in Gateway Park, Lincoln, on the site of a former Gateway Park Brewers Fayre.
The Hykeham Manor is set to open in just a few weeks’ time on October 1.
A further three pubs are set to open in October and November at North East sites in Annitsford (North Tyneside) and Stockton-on-Tees, as well as Emersons Green (Bristol) further afield.
This isn’t the first partnership announced by Wetherspoon in recent times, as the pub chain currently has five pubs under franchise with Haven Holiday Parks, as well as franchise agreements with Newcastle and Hull Universities, with a pub operating at each university.
Why are so many UK pubs closing?
It also has a franchise agreement with Thompson Holdings, which operates a pub in the Isle of Man.
Wetherspoon commercial director Michael Barron commented: “We are delighted to have signed agreements with The Papas Group.
“We are looking at further opportunities and are confident that more franchise agreements will be signed.”
The Papas Group director, Andrew, added: “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Wetherspoons to bring 15 new pubs to life across the UK.
“These aren’t just any pubs — they’re beloved community spaces, thoughtfully located outside the traditional high street, yet right at the heart of where people live, work, and gather.
The Papas Group director, Andrew Papas, said he is ‘delighted’ with the new Wetherspoon agreement (Image: Wetherspoon) “This partnership is about more than just expansion; it’s about restoration, revitalisation, and reinvestment in our local communities.
“We’re proud to be breathing new life into some fantastic venues, creating hundreds of jobs, and offering unbeatable value, welcoming surroundings and the exceptional service that people expect from Wetherspoon.
“At Papas Group, we believe in building places that bring people together — and we can’t wait to open our doors.”

Why is it called Wetherspoon?
If you’ve ever wondered where Wetherspoon got its name from, the pub chain’s website explains: “When Wetherspoon’s chairman, Tim Martin, opened his first pub in north London, in 1979, he named it Wetherspoons, after a Mr Wetherspoon – his New Zealand primary school teacher.
“The reasoning being that Mr Wetherspoon was too nice to be running Tim’s particular class and couldn’t control it; Tim thought to himself that, likewise, he couldn’t control his first pub, so considered the name appropriate.”
