Savoy Nichols leads University with multiple touchdowns as the Trojans defeat China Spring 48-24 in a high-scoring Week 3 Game of the Week.
CHINA SPRING, Texas — University quarterback Savoy Nichols accounted for three first-half touchdowns Friday night, leading the Trojans to a 48-24 win over China Spring in KCEN’s Week 3 Game of the Week at China Spring.
The Cougars struck first, marching into the red zone on their opening possession. Running back Ryan Hale capped the drive by bouncing outside for a touchdown run and a 7-0 lead.
But University answered quickly. After a strong return to their own 40-yard line, Nichols connected with Baylor commit London Smith on a 60-yard strike to tie the game.
Both defenses settled in during the second quarter until Hale, already with a touchdown on the ground, grabbed an interception to halt a Trojans drive. The momentum didn’t last, as University regained possession and Nichols showed his versatility, punching in a rushing score to put the Trojans up 14-7.
Just before halftime, Nichols struck again. With under 10 seconds left in the half, he found sophomore receiver Montrell Phenix for a touchdown, extending University’s lead.
University dominated in the second half, pulling away for a decisive 48-24 victory over the Cougars.
