MANILA, Philippines — Career British diplomat Sarah Anne Hulton has been appointed as the new ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Philippines.
Hulton, who will succeed Ambassador Laure Beaufils, is set to start her tour of duty in September. She will also be the UK’s non-resident envoy to Palau.
Hulton, who first joined the Foreign Commonwealth Office in 2002, knows how to speak Filipino. She took “full time” Tagalog language training from 2004 to 2005.
This would be her second posting in Manila. She held the Second Secretary post of the British Embassy in Manila from 2005 to 2008.
Hulton is currently FCO’s interim director for Overseas Territories and Polar Directorate.
She was British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka from August 2019 to June 2023 and has served in the FCO in several roles.
Hulton was former head of the FCO Pacific Department. She used to be the head of the conflict prevention team, weapons of mass destruction controls, and child abduction unit. She was a counter terrorism desk officer from 2003 to 2004.
