DALLAS — A U.S. Postal Service letter carrier died in Dallas this weekend, a union representative confirmed to Spectrum News.
National Association of Letter Carriers President Kimetra Lewis said the worker died on Saturday, but they are still waiting for the cause of death. An autopsy has been done.
When asked whether the Postal Service vehicle the worker was driving had air conditioning, Lewis said it did, but was not sure if it was working.
The Dallas Police Department said officers were called to a street in northwest Dallas near the Southwestern Medical District on reports of an unconscious person.
“Dallas Fire-Rescue was at the scene, prior to officers’ arrival providing treatment,” according to police. “The person was transported to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead.”
Spectrum News also reached out to the Postal Service and the Dallas Fire-Rescue, but we have not heard back.
This incident comes just over two years after North Texas postal carrier Eugene Gates Jr. collapsed and died while delivering mail during the sweltering heat.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
