Summer Best
For most of us, swimsuits and sandals are the accessories de rigueur for a summer afternoon on the water. Not Jinn Guo. The TikTok product manager leaned into a rare overcast afternoon with a Free People leather jacket and chunky platform boots, stepping aboard the Hiyu — a former ferry turned floating event venue — for Yacht Club: Tea Dance, an open-air dance party. Between DJ sets, she shared her take on Seattle’s summer style.
How did this outfit come together, and what inspired it?
I brought my leather jacket because I thought it was going to be chilly, and I wore big boots to balance the look. I wasn’t sure what the dress code was for the party, but I wanted to wear something sharp since it was the weekend.
How would you describe your personal style?
Over the past couple of years, I’ve started to express myself more through my clothing choices; more attitude, rather than dressing to impress others. I have never followed trends and previously dressed more for the environment I was in. For example, I bought this dress in China to wear to cocktail parties, and now I style it how I want.
What are your thoughts on Seattle fashion in the summer?
Summer fashion in Seattle is very free. I’ve seen fashion in lots of big cities, and it seems like people dress more for themselves than for others.
