I have a fashion confession to make. I basically want to wear loungewear as much as possible.
Because I can’t go to fancy events or dinners in pajamas, though, I’ve had to incorporate at least a few dressier items into my wardrobe. I’m always a fan of rompers — but as someone who’s not only curvy, but also petite at just under 5 feet tall (4 feet 11 and three quarters, exactly), it’s fairly impossible to find ones that fit my waist and hips while simultaneously not being too long. Because of this, I’ll admit I was wary of the Exlura Pleated Chiffon Romper fitting me properly. I ordered it with trepidation, expecting to return it. And then? It actually made me gasp aloud in glee.

Designed in swishy, accordion-pleated chiffon, the romper has a square neckline, adjustable spaghetti straps, and a ruffled bodice overlay that graduates down to flowy shorts. It’s lined, too, so you don’t have to worry about your bra or underwear showing through. It comes in 14 colors, including hot pink, royal blue, and beige, plus sizes XS–XXL. For the record, I own it in two colors in size L, which fit me perfectly.
The very first time I tried on this romper, I couldn’t believe my eyes. For starters, it was the perfect length, hitting me right at mid-thigh. Where so many other shorts and rompers have grazed my knees, this romper was, as Goldilocks would say, just right. Shorts that worked well for my shorter frame and didn’t come past my thighs? What a petite fashion score.

I love the ruffled overlay, too, which somehow de-accentuates my doughier middle and slims my figure simultaneously. Meanwhile, the adjustable straps work well for my larger bust, helping to hold the romper up and have it sit well on my petite frame.
I own the romper in black and red, and I wear each of them, well, a lot. I pull them out of my closet on a fairly regular basis, mainly due to the fact that they like a dress, but are ridiculously comfortable. I’ve worn the black romper on vacation to New Orleans, the red romper at a holiday-themed popup in Los Angeles, and both of them while out to dinner with friends, at industry events, and even to Disneyland. Honestly, it feels like wearing pajamas — and I love being that relaxed even in fancier settings.
The romper has racked up over 1,500 five-star ratings, many of which are from petite shoppers like myself. A 5-foot-2 shopper said it’s “so beautiful and very comfortable,” adding that it’s “easy to dress it up.” Other petite reviewers said the romper’s “not too long” and made from fabric that’s “flowy and stylish.”
“This summer romper is absolutely adorable and perfect for any dressy occasion,” raved another reviewer. “The fabric is light and breathable, making it ideal for warmer weather, while the design strikes the perfect balance between casual and chic.”
If you’ve been on the lookout for a dressy romper that’s so comfy you’ll feel like you’re wearing pajamas, the Exlura Pleated Chiffon Romper is your best bet. Pick it up for $43 at Amazon, then keep scrolling to shop a few more similar rompers, below.
