'They'd love to have him' - Barcelona legend uses Lamine comments to aim dig at Real Madrid

Former Barcelona star Gerard Piqué has provided his take on the head-turning recent comments laid out by current Blaugrana youngster Lamine Yamal regarding Real Madrid.

Wide-man Lamine of course caused quite a stir across the Spanish football landscape late this week.

As much came after the 18-year-old, whilst previewing this weekend’s El Clásico, revealed his take that Real Madrid continue to ‘steal and complain’.

The comments sent nothing short of a shockwave across La Liga, understood to have gone down understandably poorly behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Many have been quick to criticise Lamine, calling into question the professionalism of the Spaniard.

Eager to launch a stern defence of the player, though, as alluded to above, was Gerard Piqué.

No stranger to controversy himself, ex-Barca stopper Piqué was drawn on Lamine’s claims during his own interview with Jijantes (as cited by Marca) on Saturday.

And the 38-year-old took full advantage of the opprtunity to aim a couple of carefully-crafted digs at those on the white half of the Clásico divide:

“The rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid has always existed. They’ve told us we’ve stolen, and now we’ve told them…

“Let’s accept Lamine as he is. Obviously, he’s going to gain experience. No one is the same at 18 as they are at 38. Lamine Yamal is very special. Criticizing him about Madrid? It’s understandable. They’d love to have a Lamine. We don’t know how long we’ll be able to enjoy him. Let’s not ruin him. In today’s football, you have to take care of yourself.”
