The treat late Queen favoured despite her healthy eating | Royal | News

Queen Elizabeth had very healthy eating habits, with a number of her former staff members claiming the late monarch ate plenty of vegetables, fish and meat.

However, while she mainly ate healthy, the late Queen did also enjoy some sweet treats including dark chocolate and Bendicks Bittermints.

Former Buckingham Palace chef Darren McGrady described Her Majesty as a proper “chocoholic”, despite the fact there are only very few chocolates she would actually eat.

Speaking with CNN in 2018, when the then-monarch was still alive, he said: “She likes chocolate, but only dark chocolate, the darker the better. She’s not a big fan of milk or white chocolate.”

McGrady, who was a royal chef between 1982 and 1993, also said that Bendicks Bittermints, which earned the Royal Warrant in 1962, were her “favourite for snacking”.

While she did like the occasional sweet indulgence, the chef said that she mainly ate grilled or poached fish accompanied by vegetables and a simple salad, despite having the opportunity to eat whatever food she wanted.

Like King Charles, the late Queen reportedly enjoyed eating table home-grown vegetables, fish and pheasants from her various estates.

This healthy eating trait seems to have been passed to her son King Charles, who reportedly also has a very good diet.

His former butler Grant Harrold, who worked for the current monarch between 2004 and 2011 when he was the Prince of Wales, exclusively told Express.co.uk how much the King liked his vegetables.

He said: “He does champion traditional food and modern food.

“He loves vegetables and he has a vegetable garden at Highgrove. Vegetables are always on the menu.

“If he was going to have a snack, he is not going to be sitting there having a packet of crisps.”
