Reprising her role as Virginia Venit in Happy Gilmore 2, fans may also recognize her for her Emmy Award-winning role as Claire Dunphy in Modern Family. As for how she learned there would be a Happy Gilmore sequel, it came from a rumor one of her sons brought to her attention.
“‘Mom, they’re doing a sequel. You’re not in it,'” she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “I was like, ‘Oh, uh, that’s cool.’ [And, he says,] ‘Sydney Sweeney’s in it. Yeah. She took your role.’ I was like, ‘What is happening?’ [and he asks] ‘Can you get me on the set?’ … Adam called me and was like, ‘That’s nonsense,'” she recalled. “And we had a great time doing it.”
