Texas women’s cross country followed up its season-opening victory with another commanding win at the University of Incarnate Word Invitational this past Friday, finishing with 17 points.
The Longhorns competed against 13 other schools in a five-kilometer race hosted at the Windcrest Golf Club in San Antonio.
The team came away with first place once again, as the second-place team, UT-Rio Grande Valley, finished with 87 points.
Individually, the Longhorns occupied nine of the top 10 spots. Senior Elizabeth Pickett led the Longhorns, coming in first place with a time of 17:10.3.
Junior Brighton Mooney continued her success from the Stormy Seas Opener, finishing second again with a time of 17:31.2, followed by sophomore Sydni Wilkins in third with a time of 17:38.1.
Sophomore Kaylin Rendon finished fifth with a time of 17:46.8, accomplishing her second personal best of the season so far and beating her previous one by 16 seconds. She was followed by junior Melody Espinoza, who finished sixth with a time of 17:58.2.
Junior Aishling Callanan and freshman Isabel Conde de Frankenberg finished seventh and eighth, respectively, both with times of 18:01.7. After transferring from Oregon, Conde de Frankenberg debuted at the collegiate level on Aug. 30 for the Longhorns with a time of 18:48.88. Now, less than two weeks later, she hit another 47-second personal best.
Freshman Lily Fawcett finished less than four seconds outside of the top eight with a time of 18:05.5, putting her in ninth place. Senior Natasja Beijen finished just behind Fawcett with a time of 18:06.7 to round out the top 10.
Three more Longhorns finished outside of the top 15. Sophomore Gia Kurp finished 16th with a time of 18:35.2. Freshman Mia Perez finished 18th, a sharp decline from her fifth-place finish in the season opener with a time of 18:38.1. Junior Marissa Espinoza finished 22nd with a time of 18:51.9.
Texas gets a break for the rest of September before returning to action on Oct. 4 for its third meet of the season at the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
