Temperatures in many parts of Hong Kong fell to about 10 degrees Celsius (50 Fahrenheit) on Sunday morning, with the Observatory issuing a cold weather warning.

The city’s weather forecaster issued the warning at 6am, as it said an intense winter monsoon was bringing very dry weather to the coast of Guangdong province.

“Locally, it was cold this morning. Temperatures in many places fell to around 10 degrees, and significantly lower on high ground,” the Observatory said.

Tai Mo Shan, the city’s highest peak at 957 metres (3,140 feet), recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 3.6 degrees.

The mercury on The Peak, which stands at 552 metres above sea level, also fell to as low as 4.4 degrees.
