Sussex beach crowned among UK’s best by The Sunday Times
The Times and The Sunday Times Best UK Beaches list showcases the “unrivalled beauty of the UK seaside”.
It is evaluated through an 11-point inspection checklist, which includes water quality, cleanliness, accessibility, car-parking facilities, lifeguard presence, hygiene levels at restrooms and showers, and dog-friendliness.
Chief travel writer at The Times and The Sunday Times, Chris Haslam selected the UK’s top 50 beaches from a total of 756 that he visited and inspected on a month-long campervan tour of the British and Northern Irish coasts.
Seven out of the 50 best were in South England, and one of these was Selsey in West Sussex.

Selsey is a seaside town south of Chichester.
Its mix of shops and restaurants, as well as holiday cottages, bed and breakfasts and caravan parks, makes it a popular holiday destination.
But it was the town’s beach that was highlighted by The Times and Sunday Times.
Selsey Bill is a headland into the English Channel and also has a nearby beach, which is a fantastic place to visit.

One review on Tripadvisor described the area as offering “fabulous, panoramic views” across to the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth.
Another Sussex beach recognised by The Times
Selsey was not the only beach recognised on the list, with Normans Bay, in East Sussex, also highlighted.
Normans Bay lies between Bexhill and Eastbourne and has a rural, shingle beach.
British Beaches describes it as a “quiet and remote beach”.

“The beach’s location and sea breezes also make it a good place to fly a kite.
“On a clear day, it might be possible to see the white chalk cliffs of Beachy Head from the beach.”
