Suspect in shooting on military base in custody

A shooting occurred at the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific located at Whitmore Village just outside Wahiawa at about 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 9, according to a release by the U.S. Army Garrison at Schofield Barracks.

A single victim, a 23-year-old male, was transported to medical care and subsequently died from his wounds. The suspect, who is assigned to the 25th Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade, is currently in custody.

According to the release, this was an isolated incident and there was no additional threat to the installation or the surrounding community.

The 25th Infantry Division is working with U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division, the U.S. Navy, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Security Forces, local law enforcement, and U.S. Army Hawaii leadership on an ongoing investigation.
