Inevitably, we all forget to buy one crucial thing when the shops close. Don’t get caught out this Christmas. The major supermarkets will all have varying opening hours over the festive period, with different-sized shops resulting in different closing times to remember.
But don’t let forgetfulness ruin your holiday, here are the opening hours of all the major supermarkets so you can run in for that vital roast ingredient or missing chocolate box.
Tesco
On Christmas Eve, Tesco Extra stores and Superstores will close at 7pm. Express stores will all close by 10pm, and some may close at 7pm.
All Tesco stores and petrol stations will be closed on Christmas Day. On Boxing Day, Tesco Extra stores and Superstores will be open from 9am to 6pm.
Sainsbury’s
On Christmas Eve, Sainsbury’s supermarkets will be open from 6am to 7pm and convenience stores from 6am to 9pm. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
On Boxing Day, supermarkets will be open from 9am to 6pm and convenience stores from 9am to 9pm. Petrol stations will open 30 minutes before and close 30 minutes after the main store. Except on Christmas Eve, when they will open an hour later
Asda
On Christmas Eve, Asda stores will be open as normal. On Christmas Day, all stores will close bar those at Welcome Break Service stations and Shell forecourts.
On Boxing Day, most Asda shops will be closed, with a small number remaining open, with some open for Deliveroo and Uber Eats orders. Shell and Welcome Break stores will trade as usual.
Morrisons
On Christmas Eve, most Morrisons shops will be open from 6am to 5pm. On Christmas Day, all stores will be closed. On Boxing Day, all stores will be open between 9am and 6pm.
Lidl
On Christmas Day, every Lidl store will be closed. Most stores outside the M25 and in Wales will also be shut on Boxing Day. In the run-up to Christmas, customers are advised to shop between 8am and 10am or after 6pm to avoid the busiest times, with December 22 anticipated to be the busiest shopping day.
Aldi
On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, all Aldi stores will close and will reopen as usual on December 27. Opening hours will vary in the days leading up to Christmas, with Aldi operating extended hours to ensure customers can stock up ahead of the big day.
