Summer fashion show provides money for victims of domestic violence

This is the fourth year the non-profit has hosted the fundraiser in Rockport, with this year’s being the biggest turnout yet!

ROCKPORT, Texas — Fundraising with a side of fashion was being served Tuesday morning at the Rockport Country Club for the 4th Annual Summer Charity Fashion Show.

The annual event is hosted by the non-profit, the Children’s Coalition of Aransas County, which coordinates with local organizations to provide direct assistance to families in need or who have been victims of domestic violence. They work to ensure that every child in the community has a safe, healthy and happy environment.

The coalition also works to provide training for those in childcare centers, public and private schools and family childcare programs.

Tuesday’s event featured board members, local dignitaries and community advocates who strutted their stuff to help raise funds for the coalition’s year-round efforts. Organizers sharing that the event was completely sold-out.

The models each wore outfits from Castaways Thrift Shop in Rockport, which is run completely by volunteers from various local churches in the area.

Dianne Nielsen, CCAC executive director, says what makes the event even more special is seeing just how many people across Aransas County — organizations, businesses, and elected officials — show up to support the coalition.

“So many groups, so many businesses, so many organizations and individuals coming together to support children and families in our communities who need just a little bit of help, a little bit of hand-up, that’s what this is all about,” said Nielsen.

“Rockport is an amazing supportive community of people.”

Nielsen also explained that there’s a great need for more volunteers and all are welcomed to get involved.
