Steve Carell’s New HBO Max TV Show Gets Title, Release Date

Steve Carell‘s new HBO Max show officially has a name, as well as a release date for the upcoming show created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses.

What is Steve Carell’s new HBO Max TV show called?

The new series is called Rooster, and will debut on HBO on March 2026, according to the company. The series will also be available to stream on HBO Max, presumably after the show airs on HBO, as the company often does.

Rooster’s 10-episode season comes from Lawrence and Tarses, the former of whom created Scrubs, and the latter who has worked with Lawrence on a variety of projects, including Scrubs, in the past. This is Lawrence’s newest project since his 2024 show Bad Monkey, which is currently working on its second season for Apple TV+. Ted Lasso, another show Lawrence created, is also in development of a fourth season.

Alongside Carell, Rooster will star Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai. The series is set on a college campus, and will follow “author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Charly Clive).”

This marks Carell’s latest major TV project after recently signing on to star opposite Tina Fey in the Netflix series The Four Seasons, as well as his role in Mountainhead, the 2025 film from Succession creator Jesse Armstrong.

Following his iconic performance as Michael Scott in The Office, Carell was able to show off his skills in the drama genre, thanks to his appearances on The Morning Show and The Patient. Prior to his upcoming HBO comedy, he previously headlined Netflix’s short-lived workplace comedy Space Force.
