‘The antidote to death my dear is love” sings St. Catherine’s Child (Ilana Zsigmond) on an new single from her debut album ‘This Might Affect You‘ which will be released on 15th June via Shamus Records, a date, Father’s Day, chosen deliberately to honour Ilana’s late father.
‘New Eden‘ sounds conflicted, at turns hopeful, dreamy and really angry – and for good reason as Ilana explains: “‘New Eden’ is about meeting my partner mere months before I lost my father, about the uncomfortable dissonance that formed between such incredible happiness and utter sadness. Life doesn’t ask you if you’re ready before it moves on, but that does mean hope and love spring absolutely eternal, no matter how dark it gets on the journey.”
Even without that extra knowledge ‘New Eden‘ sounds like something special – poetic, sung from the heart, emotions laid out in a stark relief. It’s a song that resonates with honesty.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan’s music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That’s not much to ask, is it?
