Songkran Festival 2025 celebrations in Hong Kong: What to expect
The annual Songkran Festival will be back this year! In addition to the flagship water splashing event, the celebrations will also include a Thai-themed market and traditional Thai dance performances, according to the Kowloon City District Resident Association. Moreover, there will also be electronic dance music, a Thai costume experience, and Muay Thai performances.
To coincide with the festival, there will be various promotional activities to encourage more visitors. They will have a chance to try street food and tour around Kowloon City to learn more about the historical sights and culture. The neighbourhood is dubbed “Little Thailand” due to the number of Thai immigrants who have settled there. The residents have set up Thai shops and restaurants around the area as well.

What is Songkran?
Songkran is an annual festival in Thailand that marks the Thai New Year. It involves water-splashing activities that symbolise a “fresh” start. This tradition also helps usher in prosperity and good fortune in the coming year. Songkran is also a time when people reunite with families to honour their ancestors.
The festival is one of Thailand’s most popular events. This year, the Thai government estimates that it will generate 26.5 billion baht and attract 476,000 tourists. In 2023, UNESCO designated Songkran as an Intangible Cultural Heritage alongside Khon, Thai massage, and Nora.
