A winter weather advisory is in effect for Monroe and its surrounding counties until 1 p.m. Sunday.
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis is warning snow accumulations up to 3 inches are possible in parts of central Indiana, including in Brown, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan and Owen counties. Scattered snow showers are possible this afternoon and wind gusts of 35 to 40 miles per hour could reduce visibility on area roads.
Tonight will be bitterly cold with sub-zero wind chills. Today’s high will be around 30 degrees and tonight’s low will be around 11 degrees.
More snow may come Tuesday night through Wednesday night and the Arctic blast will stick around throughout the week.
Indiana Department of Transportation snow plow cameras show area highways are snow-covered and the INDOT weather station at Interstate 69 and the Ind. 45/46 Bypass is reporting the presence of black ice.
City of Bloomington crews are out clearing snow on main roads.
Travel advisories are in effect in Greene, Monroe and Owen counties Sunday morning. Brown County has moved to a travel watch, meaning only essential travel is recommended. Drivers are urged to use caution on area roadways.
