The Philippine Embassy in Singapore says it has taken note of a video circulating online showing a man assaulting a Filipina at Lucky Plaza.
The Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has also weighed in, adding that they are looking into the possibility of legal action, reports GMA News.
“It’s assault, physical assault. It’s a crime anywhere in the world, especially in Singapore. We are looking into it and filing the necessary legal actions,” DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac was quoted as saying.
The woman has been identified as a Philippine national working in Singapore. It remains unclear what sparked the violent scenes.
“The Embassy, through the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), is taking appropriate measures and has reached out to the victim to provide the necessary assistance,” read a statement from The Philippine Embassy. “At this stage, we are mindful not to disclose details that could inadvertently affect ongoing measures or aggravate the situation.”
