SINGAPORE – Singapore Airlines, its budget arm Scoot, and Cathay Pacific have cancelled flights to and from Hong Kong as Super Typhoon Ragasa approaches the city.
This comes as Hong Kong International Airport is
expected to be closed for 36 hours
from 8pm on Sept 23 to 8am on Sept 25, according to a statement by Qantas on Sept 22.
SIA has also cancelled flights to and from airports in Shenzhen in southern China scheduled for Sept 23 and Sept 24, and rescheduled some flights to and from Hong Kong.
In a statement on Sept 22, the airline said Flight SQ898 from Singapore to Hong Kong scheduled for Sept 23 has been cancelled.
Two SIA flights have been rescheduled to take off earlier.
Flight SQ894 from Singapore, which was due to land in Hong Kong on Sept 23, has been rescheduled to depart at 11.05am instead of 1.05pm.
Flight SQ895 from Hong Kong, which was due to land in Singapore on Sept 23, has been rescheduled to depart at 4.30pm instead of 6.50pm.
Another five SIA flights from Singapore that were due to land in Hong Kong on Sept 24 have been cancelled – SQ874, SQ882, SQ892, SQ894 and SQ898.
Five SIA flights from Hong Kong that were due to land in Singapore on Sept 24 have been cancelled – SQ899, SQ875, SQ883, SQ893 and SQ895.
Flight SQ899 from Hong Kong that was due to land in Singapore on Sept 25 has also been cancelled.
An SIA flight scheduled for Sept 23, SQ856 to Shenzhen, a stone’s throw from Hong Kong, has been cancelled.
Flight SQ857 departing from Shenzhen to Singapore on Sept 24 has also been cancelled.
Scoot, in response to media queries, said that six flights scheduled for Sept 23 and Sept 24 have been cancelled as at Sept 22.

In separate statements on Sept 22, Scoot and SIA apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience caused, adding that the airlines will be contacting customers affected by the flight cancellations on alternative arrangements.
Scoot added that affected customers may also request a full refund if they choose not to continue with their travel. SIA said affected customers may seek a full refund of the unused portion of their tickets.
SIA and Scoot added that other flights may also be affected as the situation changes.
The typhoon has also affected Hong Kong’s flagship carrier.
Cathay Pacific Airways said more than 500 flights across its entire network would be cancelled, and would gradually resume on Sept 25.
Three Cathay Pacific flights – CX734, CX716 and CX636 – scheduled to depart Singapore for Hong Kong on Sept 23 have been cancelled.
A Cathay Pacific flight, CX715, scheduled to depart Hong Kong for Singapore on Sept 23 has been cancelled.
All eight Cathay Pacific flights scheduled to depart Singapore for Hong Kong on Sept 24 have been cancelled.
Similarly, all seven Cathay Pacific flights scheduled to depart Hong Kong for Singapore on Sept 24 have been cancelled.
The airline said it is assisting affected customers with flight changes, and has waived rebooking, rerouting and refund fees. “We will continue to monitor the situation closely,” it added.
China Airlines has also cancelled flights to and from Taiwan scheduled for Sept 23.
