The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong has authorized Bosera International and HashKey Capital Limited to allow the Bosera HashKey Virtual Asset Ether ETF to participate in Ethereum staking as of April 25, 2025.
By facilitating Ethereum staking, it becomes the first spot Ethereum ETF in the Asia-Pacific region, providing investors with a new way to invest in Ethereum through a regulated investment product and potentially enhancing returns.
Bosera HashKey Ether ETF was launched, providing investors with exposure to Ether without exposure to security or custody issues on April 30, 2024. Almost a year later, the ETF is now allowed to bet up to 30% of its Ether holdings to earn returns.
These incentives will be reinvested in the ETF to potentially boost returns over time. This transformation changes the ETF from a passive investment vehicle into a more dynamic offering that can actively contribute to the Ethereum network and offer investors more value.
The staking procedure will be managed by HashKey Cloud, a division of HashKey Capital, guaranteeing a safe and legal system. Strong protections for the ETF’s assets and staking incentives are provided by their system, ETF Staking Pro, which will oversee the staking operations via HashKey Exchange.
This gives investors comfort and strengthens Hong Kong’s position as a major center for the development of virtual assets.
Bosera International’s Chairwoman and CEO, Ms. Lian Shaodong, hailed the firm’s recent approval to participate in staking as a major step forward in its virtual asset strategy.
She emphasized that this move not only boosts investor returns but also supports the growth of Hong Kong’s digital asset sector. “We’re bridging traditional finance with Web3 to offer smarter, more diverse investment options,” she said.
Mr. Deng Chao, CEO of HashKey Capital and HashKey OTC, said the ETF lowers entry barriers for investors, enabling broader participation in Ethereum staking and fostering deeper engagement with the Ethereum and DeFi ecosystems.
Additionally, BOCI Prudential supports the ETF by offering custodian and administrative services to guarantee seamless operation. The ETF tracks the price of Ether using a global market index, and investors can still trade it on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under the stock codes 3009.HK and 9009.HK.
