Say bonjour to glamour on the Cannes Film Festival 2025 red carpet. As the Cannes Film Festival 2025 features 22 films in competition for the Palme d’Or, the annual international festival’s highest prize, actors arrive on the French Riviera ready to celebrate and support their projects, all while dressed to the nines.

Whether they’re inspired by the Croisette’s picturesque surroundings (think beautiful beaches with crystal clear water) or just adhering to the festival’s formal dress code, particularly for screenings at the Grand Théâtre Lumière—for which the festival asserts, “Eveningwear (long dress, tuxedo) is required,” before also suggesting “a cocktail dress, a dark-colored pantsuit, a dressy top with black pants, elegant shoes and sandals with or without a heel (no sneakers), a black or navy blue suit with bow tie or dark-colored tie”—the Cannes Film Festival 2025 red carpet is the place for cinematic style spotting.

This year, there are so many films to be excited about at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, which runs from Tuesday, May 13, through Saturday, May 24, 2025. Things will kick off with Partir un Jour, a French comedy from director Amélie Bonnin that will open the festival. The Tom Cruise–fronted Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning, which also stars Hannah Waddingham, Angela Bassett, Nick Offerman, Hayley Atwell, Tramell Tillman, and Simon Pegg, will have its world premiere on Wednesday, May 14.

A few days later, Wes Anderson’s new film, The Phoenician Scheme, will debut on Sunday, May 18, before being released in the United States on May 30. In Anderson’s latest effort, Benicio Del Toro plays a wealthy businessman who enlists his estranged daughter (played by Kate Winslet’s daughter, Mia Threapleton) and her Norwegian tutor (Michael Cera) to secure his family’s future. It is said to be Threapleton’s breakout role.

Further on, Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest, which stars Denzel Washington as a music mogul who gets caught up in a ransom plot, will have its world premiere on Monday, May 19, and The History of Sound, Oliver Hermanus’s historical drama starring Josh O’Connor and Paul Mescal, will play to festival attendees on Wednesday, May 21.
