Summer Best
As seasons shift, many of us toss the move from summer shorts to fall sweaters into the “deal with it later” pile. Not Darcy Camden.
The founder and chief stylist of the University District-based Styled Seattle, Camden has helped more than 4,000 clients build wardrobes that actually work for the season.
“I think shopping sucks,” she says wryly. “It can be hard for people, and it’s an honor to offer my clients a different way to elevate their wardrobe that is more joyful and fun.”
A regular on KING 5’s “New Day Northwest” and the stylist behind the Seattle Kraken broadcasters, Camden knows a thing or two about assembling a great outfit.
How did this outfit come together, and what inspired it?
I was taping a segment at KING 5 earlier and was dressed up for that. Normally, I would wear more comfortable shoes.
How would you describe your personal style?
I love outfits that are more than one thing. To me, good style is about balancing my interests and personality, so my look isn’t the same day to day. One day I might reach for neutrals; the next, I’ll be in bold color. I keep a mix of great staples, standout “disrupter” pieces and items that feel new and next.
What style advice would you give Seattleites as fall approaches?
I tell clients to be realistic about the weather as we head into fall. Ask yourself: Will this outfit work on a cold, rainy day? It’s easy to put something together in the comfort of a dry room and then step outside and realize it doesn’t work for autumn. Without that mindset, clothes end up sitting in the closet.
