Theft of mobile phones at concert: Kochi City police make headway

The Suramangalam police on Monday (July 28, 2025) arrested a man from Kadayampatti in Salem in connection with robbing migrant labourers of their cash and mobile phones in Erode district.

The police said that eight migrant labourers from Bihar arrived at the Salem Railway Station on Saturday (July 26, 2025). While on train, an unidentified person gave a visiting card to one of the labourers and assured him of arranging a job.

Believing this, they rang up the mobile number on the card when they reached Salem. Immediately, a gang came in two cars and took them to an unidentified place, took their mobile phones and ₹64,000 in cash and freed them.

One of the labourers, Lakumanan Ansari, lodged a complaint with the Suramangalam police. The police registered a case and arrested Indirajith (29), a resident of Kadayampatti. Further investigations are on.
