Newcastle United sent scouts to watch Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini play in a pre-season friendly after there was also interest from Chelsea.
The focus from the Magpies on the centre-back has been going for a while now and it had seemed to cool in recent weeks.
However, Sky Sport Italia report that a scout representing the Premier League side was in the stands to watch Atalanta play in their pre-season friendly against the Under-23 team.

The same source also notes that while Newcastle have been tracking Scalvini, they have not made any formal offers as of yet.
The same is also true of Chelsea, as Tuttomercatoweb reported over the last few days that the Stamford Bridge side was showing interest in the Italy international.
Any sale would need to be comfortably over €50m, because although the 21-year-old barely played last season due to a serious knee and then shoulder injury, he remains one of the bright hopes of Italian football and is under contract until June 2028.
