The Quincy Public Schools Disciplinary Committee discussed the ongoing issue of cell phones in schools.
The committee met to discuss the policy after legislation was passed in Iowa and Missouri banning cell phone usage in school starting this year.
Currently, both Quincy Junior High School and Quincy High School have limitations on cell phone usage in school, with both entering their third school year with the policy in place.
The schools say they have seen positive impacts.
“It was hard for the first couple of years because kids had been used to it, and then it was kind of taken away and it was like ‘oh wait,’ but for the most part, it’s not a real problem,” said Brenda Fleer, QJHS Principal.
The Disciplinary Committee also discussed the statistics from the past 2024–25 school year in terms of discipline, which stated that 80 percent of students are on track in behavior, followed by 9 percent being at risk and 11 percent in critical in behavior.
The committee will meet once again in February.
