GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – President Joe Biden has released a statement Saturday about the devastating impacts Hurricane Helene has caused across the Southeast.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and devastation,” said the President.
President Biden said he and Vice President Kamala Harris are focusing their attention on the ongoing response efforts and are in contact with local and state officials to ensure all communities have the support and resources they need.
Biden stressed that the road to recovery will be long, but his Administration “will be with you every step of the way.”
“We’re not going to walk away. We’re not going to give up,” stated President Biden. “As we turn toward recovery efforts, we will make certain that no resource is spared to ensure that families, businesses, schools, hospitals, and entire communities can quickly begin their road to rebuilding.”
According to the White House, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell is traveling throughout the Southeast to assess the damage along with other state and local officials.
President Biden said he and First Lady Jill Biden are extending their prayers to those who have lost loved ones from Hurricane Helene, as well as those who have lost their homes, businesses and communities from the storm.
