Thousands of Northern Michigan residents were without power on Wednesday morning as a winter storm moved through the region.
As of 8:30 a.m., Great Lakes Energy was reporting 24 active outages affecting 1,426 customers. Presque Isle Gas & Electric had four active outages affecting 144 customers. Cloverland Electric Cooperative reported eight active outages affecting 898 customers.

According to the National Weather Service office in Gaylord, heavy, wet snow is expected to continue today into the evening, with the potential for icing. The highest snowfall amounts of 4-8 inches is expected in the eastern U.P. and Tip of the Mitt regions.

The potential for gusting winds may also lead to low visibility, and weather officials urge caution if traveling.
