President-elect Donald Trump and President Joe Biden gathered in the White House’s Oval Office on Wednesday for a brief meeting.
Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election last week, winning his second term as president. He will be sworn into office on Jan. 20, 2025.
With just two months left to go until Trump’s inauguration, Biden congratulated the president-elect on his win.
“Well, Mr. President-elect and former president, Donald,” Biden said, shaking Trump’s hand on Wednesday. “Congratulations, and I’m looking forward to having, like we said, a smooth transition, doing everything we can to make sure you’re accommodated, get what you need.”
“Politics is tough, and it’s in many cases not a nice world, but it is a nice world today, and I appreciate it very much,” Trump told Biden on Wednesday. “A transition that’s so smooth, it will be as smooth as it can get. And I very much appreciate that, Joe.”

The White House visit is Trump’s first since his term ended in January 2021.
