Pakistan’s ship recycling sector has taken a long-awaited step onto the global compliance ladder, with Prime Green Recyclers becoming the country’s first Hong Kong Convention (HKC) compliant yard.
Established in 2000 in Gadani as Prime Ship Breakers, the company was later rebranded as Prime Green Recyclers.
Classification society Bureau Veritas has issued a statement of compliance to the facility, a landmark moment for a country that has long trailed India, Bangladesh and Turkey in formal yard certification despite being one of the world’s major recycling destinations.
Industry sources indicate the move could be the first of several, with two more Pakistani yards expected to receive HKC compliance in the coming weeks.
