Padres lose to Brewers in walk-off fashion

David Morgan came in to pitch for the San Diego Padres in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers. Morgan threw one pitch to Caleb Durbin and it resulted in a game winning solo home run to left-center field to give the Brewers a 4-3 win.

The Padres scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game, 3-3 after the Brewers scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 3-1 lead.

After a double steal of third base and second base by Tyler Wade and Xander Bogaerts, Luis Arraez hit a two-out two-run double into the left field corner. Wade and Bogaerts scored and it appeared the momentum had shifted from Milwaukee to San Diego.

The two-run inning by the Padres followed a two-run inning by the Brewers. Jason Adam came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth inning with the score tied 1-1. By the time the inning ended, Milwaukee had a 3-1 lead.

Adam started the inning with a line out from Jackson Chourio for the first out of the inning. Adam walked Christian Yelich, allowed a single to William Contreras and the bases were loaded after a catcher’s interference against Elias Diaz with Sal Frelick at the plate.

Rhys Hoskins hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Yelich and give the Brewers a 2-1 lead. Milwaukee added on with a single to left by Isaac Collins to score Contreras and make the score, 3-1. Frelick was thrown out trying to make it to third base on the play, ending the inning.

The two-run bottom of the eighth inning followed a bottom of the seventh where the Brewers were able to get a sacrifice fly from pinch hitter Jake Bauers off Jeremiah Estrada. The sacrifice allowed Collins to score and Milwaukee tied the game, 1-1.

The Padres took the lead in the top of the fourth inning when Jackson Merrill scored on a Diaz RBI-single to put San Diego up, 1-0.

Stephen Kolek started for the Padres and pitched well through 5 2/3 innings. He held the Brewers scoreless and allowed just three hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

San Diego will looked to win the series against Milwaukee, Sunday at 10:05 a.m.
