Operation Santa Claus: HK$13.2 million raised in last 2 months of 2024

Annual fundraising drive Operation Santa Claus (OSC) raised a substantial HK$13.2 million (US$1.7 million) in the last two months of 2024 to improve the lives of more than 11,000 underprivileged Hongkongers through 11 charities.

Contributions to the 37th edition of the initiative, jointly organised by the South China Morning Post and public broadcaster RTHK, brought the total funds raised by OSC since its 1988 inception to over HK$396 million, benefiting 364 charitable projects in the city.

The numbers were announced at the campaign’s closing ceremony held on Wednesday at social enterprise Museum Cafe 8, run by a former OSC beneficiary, at Central Pier 8.

The latest donations will be distributed among 11 charities for projects aimed at helping more than 11,000 underprivileged individuals, according to the organisers.

“In a vibrant city like Hong Kong, where the hustle and bustle can sometimes overshadow the struggles of many, it’s crucial that we extend our hands and hearts to lift those in need,” RTHK acting assistant director for radio Angel Cheng told attendees at the ceremony.

“Together, we can continue to bring light to those who need it most. Let’s carry this momentum forward, ensuring that Operation Santa Claus thrives in the years to come.”
