One deceased in U.S. 101 head-on

RAYMOND — One person perished after a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 101 near Smith Creek Road just north of Raymond at around noon on Oct. 5.
As of about 2 p.m., a detour was in effect down Smith Creek and Butte Creek roads, which was expected to be in place for an extended time for an investigation at the scene of the accident.
An air ambulance landed on the highway but departed without a patient after it was determined an occupant of one of the vehicles was deceased at the scene. The vicinity of the accident has been the location of many wrecks.
Additional details will be provided once next of kin have been notified.
