Omaha baseball loses series versus South Dakota State in blowout fashion | Sports

The Jackrabbits hopped all over the Mavericks on Mother’s Day as Omaha lost the rubber match against South Dakota State.

The Mavericks lost 14-3, succumbing to the mercy rule in the seventh inning. The Jackrabbits came out of the gates scorching, plating 13 runs in the first four innings.

Omaha pitchers Maddox Meyer, Sam Beck and Landon Mueller struggled in the loss. Meyer (2-2) got the loss as the three pitchers gave up a combined 13 runs in 3.2 innings.

Ten of those runs were earned as two Mavericks errors led to three unearned runs.

Dylan Richey and Sam Schlecht led the way for the Jackrabbits’ pitching staff. Schlecht (3-3) earned the win, tossing three innings while giving up two hits and one run.

Omaha center fielder Blake Stenger and catcher Noah Greise were the only run producers in a slow offensive day for the Mavericks. Greise roped Omaha’s only extra base hit, driving in third baseman Grant Sommers in the sixth inning.

The top of the Jackrabbits’ lineup carried the offense. Their top six hitters combined for 12 hits and nine RBIs. Center fielder Owen Siegert and right fielder Jess Bellows stood out with each player collecting three hits.

The series marks the Mavericks’ last home series in conference play. They will travel to Fargo to take on North Dakota State for their final Summit League series of the 2025 season. The three-game series will be played from May 15th-17th.

Next, the Mavericks will host the Creighton Bluejays on May 13th at 6 p.m. The in-city rivals have split the season series so far with each team winning one game apiece.
