Olympiakos draws elite opposition in Champions League League Phase

Greek champion Olympiakos faces a demanding League Phase in this season’s UEFA Champions League, after Thursday’s draw in Monaco paired the Piraeus club with some of Europe’s most powerful sides.

Their opponents include Real Madrid and Barcelona from Spain, Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal from England, Dutch clubs PSV Eindhoven and Ajax, Paphos of Cyprus, and Kazakhstan’s Kairat.

The League Phase’s Matchday 1 is scheduled for September 16–18 and continues with Matchday 2 (September 30–October 1), Matchday 3 (October 21–22), Matchday 4 (November 4–5), Matchday 5 (November 25–26), and Matchday 6 (December 9–10). After the winter break, the teams return to action on Matchday 7 (January 20–21) before completing the League Phase on Matchday 8.

UEFA, which oversees European football and organizes the Champions League, is expected to announce the precise dates and times of the fixtures by Saturday.
