Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois 2 RECAP: Ukrainian KNOCKS OUT Brit in fifth round with stunning finish at Wembley to become three-time undisputed champion
Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois 2 RECAP: Ukrainian KNOCKS OUT Brit in fifth round with stunning finish at Wembley to become three-time undisputed champion
Relive Mail Sport’s live blog for the ring walk times, undercard results and round-by-round updates as Daniel Dubois takes on Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley.
Usyk is undisputed once more
Every time I cover Oleksandr Usyk, it always feels like he is an underdog going into the fight, or at least has a big pool of doubters. It’s weird, especially given how many times he has proven them wrong in the past.
Tonight was similar. I saw plenty of big names in the sport suggesting that Usyk’s age would lead to Daniel Dubois shocking the world. So many people thought the Ukrainian would lose tonight, more than you’d expect.
But of course, he did what he does best. Made them all look foolish.
From the first bell, Usyk was on Dubois, making him miss and landing jab after jab on the Briton.
He didn’t lose any of the first four rounds, and then in the fifth, it was nighty-night for Dubois.
First, Usyk knocked him down with a right, but he got back up. Seconds later, though, he was down and out after one hell of a left hand from the 38-year-old.
And just like that, Usyk was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world again, 14 months after he managed the feat against Tyson Fury.
The best of his generation, and one of the best of all time. No doubt.
Right, with that, I would like to say thank you for following our coverage as we watched the great produce the goods again.
I will see you all very soon.
WATCH: Usyk’s winning punch
Right, it’s nearly time for us to close shop here tonight, but I can’t leave you without posting the winning punch.
It’s beautiful, truly beautiful.
It was a flurry of shots that capped off a simply sensational performance from Oleksandr Usyk. One of the best he has ever produced.
Charles: ‘Dubois will be back stronger’
Don Charles, Daniel Dubois’ trainer, speaking on DAZN:
We tried to get going. Dubois is a young champion. It’s remarkable what he was achieved to date, he will be back stronger. If you’re going to lose, lose to someone like Usyk.
The team behind Usyk
We have to remember, Oleksandr Usyk has not done this on his own.
The Ukrainian always makes sure to thank his family and his team, such as the humble man he is, and it’s nice to see him celebrating with those closest to him.
You simply can’t not love this bloke. What a boxer, but most of all, what a human being.
The most likeable character in the sport? I think so.
Parker: ‘Derek should p*** off, I’m next’
Do you reckon Joseph Parker wants to fight Oleksandr Usyk, by any chance?
Well, he certainly doesn’t want Derek Chisora to – I don’t think anybody wants to see that fight happen.
As Parker told my colleague Charlotte Daly, ‘it was a sensational performance from Usyk,’ nobody in the world can deny that.
That being said, Parker would give him a run for his money, that’s for sure.
It simply has to be made, that fight.
WATCH: Usyk’s winning walk
Now this must feel class.
Imagine having just become the undisputed heavyweight champ and then getting to strut your stuff with fans cheering you off.
Must feel like a billion dollars. I would say a million, but he already has a lot of those.
The KO punch
You can’t get a punch to the chin better than this, flush on the jaw. Perfect from Oleksandr Usyk.
The moment this landed, it was time for Daniel Dubois to be read a bedtime story. Put to sleep.
He was never going to get up after this.
‘Usyk is a legend’
Carl Frampton, former world champion, on DAZN:
I think he’s [Oleksandr Usyk] a legend. He can compete in any era. He’s beaten everyone and three of the top guys twice.
Usyk’s last six fights
Olekasandr Usyk does have some roster, he really does.
Honestly, you read who he has beaten in the last few years and you can’t deny that he is a true great of the sport, maybe even one of the top five boxers we have ever seen in the ring.
Here are his last six fight results:
25 Sept 2021: UD win over Anthony Joshua
20 Aug 2022: SD win over Anthony Joshua
26 Aug 2023: KO win over Daniel Dubois
18 May 2024: SD win over Tyson Fury
21 Dec 2024: UD win over Tyson Fury
19 July 2025: KO win over Daniel Dubois
Usyk faces off with Paul
Erm… what is going on here?
Jake Paul has taken his chance to face off with Oleksandr Usyk right after he had just knocked out one of the best heavyweights in the world. I’m not sure I’d be keen to do that, but each to their own.
I know this is just a gimmick, but if this fight ever happened, Paul wouldn’t make it out of the first round. Not even the first minute.
I’m sure a lot of people would pay to see it, but I wouldn’t want to watch.
‘Usyk is the genius of this generation’
Oleksandr Usyk is the genius of this boxing generation and he delivered not only a master class but also a brutal caning of his latest English pupil to restore his briefly interrupted reign as undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Daniel Dubois was reduced to a sprawling, bumbling wreck on the floor at Wembley without winning even one of the preceding four rounds. A very big boy lost. Totally bewitched, utterly bewildered, helplessly bedazzled by a genius of the Noble Art.
‘I would love to have fought Usyk’
Lennox Lewis, former undisputed heavyweight champion, speaking on DAZN:
I wish I was in this generation because I would have loved to fight him [Oleksandr Usyk]. He’s a great champion, the greatest champion of this era. I’m the greatest champion of my era.
Damaging day for Dubois
This must really hurt for Daniel Dubois.
After what he did to Anthony Joshua last year, you just expected him to give Oleksandr Usyk a real fight tonight.
Dubois wasn’t aggressive enough and just couldn’t land a big enough hit on Usyk; he was chasing shadows.
However, I don’t want to have too much of a dig because it was more due to the brilliance of the Ukrainian rather than Dubois’ inadequacies.
Dubois now needs to dust himself off, get back to the drawing board, and work his way back up to the top.
It may take a while, but he has lots of time.
‘It’s Joe Parker’s time’
Frank Warren, boxing promoter, on DAZN:
Usyk is a modern-day legend. In any generation, he would be a great fighter. No complaints, the better man won on the night. It’s Joe Parker’s time.
What next for Usyk?
Well, first of all, he said he would rest.
But we all know what Oleksandr Usyk is like; it won’t be too long until he is back in the ring.
There is a problem, though. he has beaten everybody there is to beat.
Tyson Fury beaten twice. Anthony Joshua beaten twice. Now, Daniel Dubois beaten twice.
The only option has to be Anthony Joshua, because I am sorry, there is no way you can let Derek Chisora in there with that beast of a man. It would be messy.
Moses Itauma could be an option if he beats Dillian Whyte, but it still feels to early for the young talent.
Usyk could retire now, and no one could begrudge him. He’s done it all.
Dubois: ‘I will be back’
Daniel Dubois, speaking to DAZN:
I have to commend him on the performance. I gave everything I had; there could have been a few things I could have sharpened up on, but don’t take credit away from him. I will be back.
Three-time undisputed champ
Not once, not even twice… THREE times.
For the third time in his career, Oleksandr Usyk is an undisputed champion. He did it once at cruiserweight, and now twice at heavyweight.
Tonight, he once again proved why he is one of the best world champions we have ever seen in this sport. One of the greats.
He may even be the greatest we have ever seen. It’s hard to argue with that, don’t you think?
We may never see such dominance again.
Usyk: ’38 is a young guy’
Oleksandr Usyk, two-time undisputed heavyweight champion, on DAZN:
38 is a young guy, remember! 38, it’s only the start. I want to say thank you to Jesus Christ, I want to say thank you to my team, and to you, Wembley. Thank you so much.
It’s for the people, it’s for our world’s people. [I want to do] nothing, it’s enough. I want to rest. I want to be back home with my family, my wife, my children. I want to rest, but maybe two or three months…
Maybe it’s Tyson Fury… maybe we have three option: Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua. Maybe Joseph Parker. I can not now say because I want to be back home.
Tears of joy
Oleksandr Usyk dropped to his knees after the fight was called.
Tears then streamed down from his eyes in celebration as the reality hit that he had done it yet again.
The three-peat is complete. This man truly is the greatest heavyweight we have seen in the modern era.
Why did anyone doubt him? That was a clinic.
It’s another monstrous night for Usyk, and of course, he has done it yet again for his country.
What a hero. History made.
‘A veritable barrage’
Dubois was supposed to be the one needing an early finish, but Usyk delivered the fifth-round knock with laser ferocity. Two lefts and a right for the first dropping to the canvas. A veritable barrage to finish the young man off, Wow.
Incredible KO from Usyk
Wow, that was sensational.
The moment Oleksandr Usyk caught Daniel Dubois with the right to send him down the first time, you knew it was the beginning of the end.
And then the left hook straight after Dubois gets up, and an incredible counter to the chin. Nighty, night. never getting up from that.
What a way to turn Dubois’ lights out.
USYK KNOCKS OUT DUBOIS
A brilliant left then right from Oleksandr Usyk after slipping a meaty Daniel Dubois hook.
Usyk lands a right hook when backed up into the corner… AND THEN HE DOES IT AGAIN.
Dubois in real trouble… and it’s over, Usyk has done it yet again.
ROUND FOUR: Usyk in control
Oleksandr Usyk still has so much speed for a man of his age.
But he gets clipped by the jab of Daniel Dubois, and the opportunity opens up for the Brit.
But he doesn’t take it… why doesn’t he follow up with another?
Usyk continues to pick apart Dubois toward the end of the round, and he is really controlling this fight.
‘Dazzling from Usyk’
Dubois enjoyed some success at the start of the third but three or four dazzling combinations sent his sweat flying as another round slipped away.
Jeff’s R3 scorecard: Usyk 10-9
ROUND THREE: Better from Dubois
This is one hell of a fight, already.
Daniel Dubois doesn’t look nearly as shaken as he did in the first two, and is finally starting to land and put some pressure on.
He certainly looks more relaxed, but he is not quite punching at the same rate as Usyk.
A tame end to the round in the end, but better from the Brit.
‘Usky not being found’
There was a meatier menace in the Dubois lunges but Usyk was not to be found so easily as Anthony Joshua when Dynamite blew him away.
Jeff’s R2 scorecard: Usyk 10-9
ROUND TWO: Usyk making Dubois miss
Oleksandr Usyk is continuing where he left off in the first.
He is making Daniel Dubois miss with every shot, he simply can’t lay a glove on usyk, the Brit.
And he makes Dubois wobble right at the end of the round with a brilliant flurry, and the Briton is in trouble.
A dominant start from the champ.
‘Usyk razor-sharp’
If anything, Usyk received a more reverential welcome not the ring than the local boy who had already made good on his dream of becoming a world champion. Dubois had threatened to throw the kitchen but he was somewhat out of range at the start and picked off by the razor-sharp.
Jeff’s R1 scorecard: Usyk 10-9
ROUND ONE: Usyk starts strong
Oleksandr Usyk is using that jab straight away, catching Daniel Dubois straight from the off.
Those classic feints are out in full force, and Dubois is not jabbing nearly enough here.
He’s already making Dubois miss, as the big man swings a huge right hand which Usyk ducks below.
The Briton ends with a bit of a flurry as he pushes Usyk into the corner, but the Ukrainian comes back with a left.
And another good shot before the bell. Brilliant start for Usyk.
Off we go!
My word, I forgot just how much of a big lad Daniel Dubois is. He’s massive.
The tension is palpable as they stare each other in the eyes; they don’t touch gloves and Dubois even leans his head a bit toward Usyk in an intimidation tactic.
And there goes the bell, we are off!
Let’s get ready to rumble
Michael Buffer is off again.
It’s good to see him back in the ring again after seeing him introduce the Club World Cup final like it was a boxing bout.
He belts out his catchphrase as beautifully as ever before.
The fighters are here and ready, I am ready, are you ready? It’s nearly go-time.
‘Usyk greeted with cheers’
Usyk’s entry was greeted by at least as many cheers as boos, such is the respect throughout the world for this master of boxing and the heroism of the Ukrainian people in their war with Russia.
Unbeaten Usyk makes his entrance
Chants of ‘Usyk, Usyk, Usyk’ belt out from the stands as goongs start to play and images of the unbeaten champ are shown on the big screen.
A remix of Ave Maria then begins, and a group of dancers in boxing robes and gloves part to allow Oleksandr Usyk to make his grand entrance.
He is drenched in a monster grey coat and ambles to the ring without a single snigger of a smirk.
Here comes DDD
Earlier I said that it feels like we are at a concert, but no, I have changed my mind, it feels like we are at a rave.
Daniel Dubois starts his walkout to Baddadan by Chase & Status, and there are people throwing about flames – sparks are flying everywhere.
That is then followed by a very different vibe as Dubois emerges in his blacked-out poncho to Candy Girl.
What a banger, I have to say.
Dubois looks completely unfazed, and there is an intimidating look in his eye as he jogs up and down before making his way to the ring.
This is a man who is ready to shock the world. Time for chaos.
National anthems begin
No, he is not about to sing the national anthems, but he is introducing both singers of Ukraine and the UK to do so.
Thankfully, there is no Saudi Arabian national anthem tonight, like there has been in the past. That was wild.
Tale of the Tape
Phoar, the time has come.
I have been excited for this fight for absolutely ages, ever since it was announced, and now it’s just moments away from starting.
Before it does, here is the tale of the tape…
The stat that pops out to me is just how many of Daniel Dubois’ wins are by knockout – all but one.
He will be aiming to land one big right hand tonight to make history.
Usyk’s singer ready to perform
I am so excited to see Oleksandr Usyk’s ring walk.
It’s nearly time for the great man to come out, and I know it will give me chills. His ring walks always do.
Today, Ukrainian singer Nadya Dorofeeva will sing the national anthem of Usyk’s homeland before he walks to the ring, and below is what she had to say before she begins her performance.
‘Dubois has grown as an athlete’
Lennox Lewis, former undisputed world heavyweight champion, on DAZN:
There will always be questions; everyone is going to question him [Daniel Dubois]. I think he has grown as an athlete and a champion. He knows what he needs to go and do. He was this close before, so all he has to do is cross that bridge now.
Wembley bouncing
Oh yeah, I am loving this.
There is a bit of Pitbull playing at Wembley now, and it makes me want to get my bald cap out and dance.
Honestly, Wembley is popping off right now, some may even mistake it for a concert night. It’s so loud.
I am absolutely loving it.
Okolie wins by unanimous decision
What a performance that was from Lawrence Okolie.
Right from the first bell, you could just tell that Okolie was going to control the fight, and that’s what he did.
Two judges scored the contest 100-90 in Okolie’s favour, the other 99-91, and he has just made another statement in his bid to get a bout with the big boys.
Freed From Desire is now ringing around Wembley, and the atmosphere has just gone up a level here.
Dubois hitting the pads
I have heard Daniel Dubois hit the pads in person, and my word, it makes such a thunderous sound.
This video doesn’t even do his power justice.
Frank Warren has left his seat, too, by the looks of it, just to check on how his prodigy is doing.
Looks pretty darn good to me.
Usyk to extend undefeated run?
Oleksandr Usyk’s record is just mental.
Earlier, I rattled off some of the names he has beaten, including Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Oh yeah, and don’t forget he beat Tony Bellew at Cruiserweight.
Usyk may not be the most spectacular fighter in the ring, but boy, does he know how to get the job done.
Even when he is on the ropes, destined for defeat, he will keep in the fight and come on strong in the later rounds.
I expect him to do the same tonight. He just can’t be broken – physically or mentally.
‘Usyk’s smartness wins him the bout’
Steve Bunce, boxing commentator, gives his prediction to BBC Sport:
Usyk wins because he’s just that much smarter. I don’t rule out Dubois hitting him on the chin but he’d have to do that repeatedly and I don’t sense signs of decay yet in Usyk.
Usyk isn’t dependent on being strong and fast – he’s a smart fighter – I think he could hide the decline for a few fights and get away with it. He doesn’t get hit on the chin often enough to be in trouble and that won’t happen in this fight. I think he wins after eight or nine rounds.
Dubois all gloved up
With Lawrence Okolie’s bout nearing an end, Daniel Dubois is all kitted out and raring to go.
I bet he just wants to get out there now; he has waited long enough for this opportunity.
Wearing gloves for 30 minutes before your fight must be rough, mind. Surely his hands will be all grim and sweaty.
I guess he won’t really give a hoot about that, though.
Paul subject to boos
We all know that Jake Paul isn’t exactly the most popular bloke in the sport.
I mean, he is far from it, maybe even one of the furthest from popularity, even if he has proved himself to be a decent fighter these days.
Anyway, his face has just been shown on the big screen, and I’m pretty sure all 60,000 people inside the stadium booed.
What happened in the first fight?
I think it’s about time we address the elephant in the room, isn’t it?
Anyone who has been watching the build-up to his fight will know why there is a bit more on this than a usual unification bout.
This is no normal second fight of the series; there is more to it.
The first fight was very controversial, and it has dominated much of the pre-bout talk for months.
Dabniel Duibois still believes to this day that his body shot to Usyk early in the first fight was legal, and should have counted as a knockdown.
But it was deemed as a low blow, and Usyk went on to come storming back and win in the ninth round.
If I’m honest, I still think that the punch was slightly below the belt and that Usyk would have won anyway. However, I see why Dubois may still feel cheated.
But that’s all history now, it’s a different day and a different fight.
Usyk gearing up
OK, now I am really excited.
The final preparations for this fight are well and truly underway for Oleksandr Usyk, and this means that the bout is really not far away now.
Honestly, my leg is starting to shake; that’s how excited I am for this fight to get going. I am itching to see these two monsters battle it out.
I have a feeling it’s going to be an all-timer.
’38 is not old’
Oleksandr Usyk on his age not being a problem:
I respect this guy, this young guy, this guy [is] motivated, but I’m too. I’m not old guy. 38, it’s not old.
‘Usyk will beat Dubois’
Joe Cordina, former world champion, on BBC Sport:
Usyk will beat Dubois. The last fight Dubois was very unlucky not to win. If Dubois can get on him early doors, but he’ll be very aware of that, Usyk, and I think he’ll step his game up this fight.
He beats Dubois now, and then he’ll be in the history books. He’s in the history books anyway but what I mean is he will go down as the one of the greatest heavyweights that has ever been.
Is Usyk’s age a problem?
Oleksandr Usyk is 38 years old. I know, I can’t believe it either.
In his last five fights, he has beaten Tyson Fury, who people thought was the best of his generation, twice, Anthony Joshua twice, and of course Daniel Dubois.
It’s simply a ridiculous roster of names to beat once, let alone twice in the cases of Fury and Joshua.
And all that at an age where most fighters are on a downward spiral.
Surely, he can’t keep fighting at his peak at the age of 38; he simply has to slow down at some point. Many think that point could be now.
But only seven months ag,o he dominated Fury over in Saudi Arabia, and nobody spoke about age back then.
The difference is, Dubois is only 27. 11 years is a big difference when it comes to speed and durability.
But Usyk is no ordinary boxer; he is the best of his era. I’m not sure his age will matter.
Okolie takes to the ring
Guys, we are getting into big fight territory.
You must be excited now, I mean, I for one am absolutely buzzing about the next couple of ours. It will be box office.
Our penultimate fight of the night is about to get underway now as Briton Lawrence Okolie is taking to the ring to take on Kevin Lerena in a huge heavyweight bout.
Wembley is starting to fill up, and the atmosphere is popping off.
‘Usyk on best run of any boxer alive’
Carl Frampton, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live:
We’ve seen an improvement in Dubois definitely, he’s been different in his last few fights. But even the best version of Dubois we’ve seen so far might not be enough.
People are talking about Usyk’s age, but I haven’t seen any decline. If you go through the last few fights, Dubois is on an incredible run.
But look at Usyk’s last five – that might be the best run of any boxer alive at the minute and no one is talking about it.
Stone-faced Dubois
I think the only way we will see Daniel Dubois smile tonight is if he is celebrating a historic win. Until then, he will just look locked in.
I swear he does have a smile, though, a good one too. I saw it a lot when spending time with him last month, he loves a chuckle… even when in hard training.
Just not on a night like this.
History beckons for DDD
Tonight is a biggie a real biggie. It has the possibility of going down in the record books.
Well, that is if Daniel Dubois wins.
If the man from London manages to get his hand raised in his home city, then the first Briton to unify the heavyweight division in the four-belt era.
He would also become the very first man to become undisputed champ on home soil.
Lennox Lewis was the last Brit to be undisputed back in ’99, can Dubois now make his own legacy?
Dynamite’s last outing under the arch
We all know what happened last time Daniel Dubois was here at the famous Wembley.
Dubois was a huge underdog going into his fight with Anthony Joshua in September. Everybody just thought it would be a springboard for Joshua to go on to fight Tyson Fury.
Well, it wasn’t. In fact, it was a springboard for Dubois to earn his second bite of the cherry against Oleksandr Usyk.
He didn’t just beat Joshua, he embarrassed him, knocking him down time after time until he couldn’t get back up in the fifth round.
I remember being stunned, utterly stunned. Nobody saw it coming.
Tonight, Dubois is vying to shock us all again, and you would be a fool to doubt him.
Dubois: ‘I can’t be beaten’
Daniel Dubois, speaking to BBC Sport:
I have resurrected myself, my career, and now I am on a roll. I am unstoppable, I feel like I can’t be beaten right now. I am in the prime of my life.
We are here now, so no more excuses. I have got ot beat him this time. I am going to cause chaos, knockouts. I am ready, man, I am ready. Legacy, this is bigger than glory, this is legacy. Putting yourself in history.
DDD drops in
Now that is what you call a focused look.
Not a smile in sight as Daniel Dubois makes his entrance to the stadium where he knocked out Anthony Joshua last year.
He arrives an hour after Oleksandr Usyk, so much less time for preparation.
I’m not sure that ill really make a difference, though. Well, I don’t expect it will, but who truly knows?
‘Youth has to be an advantage’
Johnny Nelson, Mail Sport:
Dubois is 27, 11 years younger than Usyk. Youth has to be an advantage. He has greater raw power, he’s one of the most athletic heavyweights out there and is naturally very strong with a great punch.
That means he always has a real puncher’s chance. Also, without sounding unkind, Daniel Dubois’ ignorance could work in his favour.
Inside Usyk’s camp
Want to know how Oleksandr Usyk got to his career high weight? Of course you do.
My colleague Charlotte Daly was invited into the three-belt world champ’s fight camp, which is pretty cool, am I right?
It’s fair to say she learned a lot about the Ukrainian, who is still working at peak performance even at 38 years of age.
I urge you to give this a read; you won’t regret it.
WATCH: Usyk and Dubois weigh in
Have you guys seen the weigh-in?
Well, if you haven’t seen it, then you are in luck. I’m being such a nice guy to all of you by sharing the link to it. Yeah, I know… so kind of me.
Oleksandr Usyk is now a big boy certified.
The Ukrainian has come in at 227.2lbs, which is the heaviest he has ever weighed during his whole career.
Dubopis, meanwhile, is 10lbs heavier than he was in the first fight at 243.8lbs.
Ramsey backs Dubois
OK, maybe I was wrong, Gordon Ramsey seems to be walking just fine. What a trouper.
Anyway, he has given his prediction for the fight tonight, and it’s pretty clear who he is backing. Strong words.
I must say, the age will be a huge factor, like Ramsey says.
Famous faces
Here are those big names that I was talking about.
We are less than two hours from the main event, so the VIP section is slowly starting to fill up as anticipation grows.
Frank Bruno is one of bug guns in the building, while it seems Gordon Ramsey has managed to find function in his legs again after completing his Iron Man 70.3 last week.
I mean, he probably won’t be able to get up now that he has sat down; the cramp.
WATCH: Fighter walks to ring with umbrella
Well, this says everything.
Maybe Wembley should have thought about closing the roof for this one because fighters are now walking to the ring under umbrellas. It really is rancid weather in London.
I can’t imagine Oleskandr Usyk or Daniel Dubois will be fond of getting drenched on their way to the fight, and during it.
‘Usyk may have to get off the floor’
Tony Bellew, former cruiserweight world champion, predicts the fight on BBC Sport:
Usyk to win anywhere between rounds eight to 12, but I think he may have to get off the floor for the first time in his career. Dubois is at an all-time high with confidence.
It will take Usyk six or seven rounds to beat that out of him, but by round eight or nine he will be done and then it’s about whether he can continue to absorb what Usyk is dishing out after that.
‘Dubois has to start quick’
George Groves, former super-middleweight champion, speaking at aMidnite Q&A event:
Dubois has got to start quick. He’s got to be switched on mentally from the changing room and prepare himself to start fast. He wants to bring pressure but educated pressure and hopefully land something heavy and big on Usyk in those first few rounds before Usyk gets his rhythm set and his distance control set up. But if he has success early that’s the best way to start against Usyk.
Warren watches on
Frank Warren has already taken his seat, he wants to see all the fights.
Wembley is still pretty empty, and many of the biggest names in the fight game are yet to arrive. I mean, the fight is still two hours away, so it makes sense.
But Warren is not just here to watch Daniel Dubois’ date with history. No, he wants to watch anyone and everyone in that ring.
He could crack a smile at least, though… only joking, Frank. Love the focus.
Usyk is in the building
Nope, I’m not talking about three-belt world champion Oleksandr Usyk, but rather the toy he has in his jacket.
The Ukrainian always brings his Eeyore toy with him to every single fight, big or small, and he has obviously been a very lucky charm so far.
Dubois’ time to make history?
This is the moment that Daniel Dubois has been waiting for his whole life.
When I sat down with Dubois at the Farm Gym last month, with the Wembley Arch taking over the skyline in the distance, he was clear about one thing. Tonight is the night he becomes a legend of the sport; it’s time to create a legacy.
And going by what I saw in the boxing ring that day, it’s most certainly possible.
Dubois looked the sharpest and the fittest I have ever seen him, and did it all with a smile on his face.
If there is one thing I know for sure, Dubois will not be feeling the pressure when he steps into the ring tonight. He is ready to shock the world.
‘Rain not dampening spirits’
The rain may be pouring… but it certainly isn’t dampening the atmosphere. Usyk has just arrived, Daniel Dubois is en route and the place is crawling with celebrities.
From Premier League stars to movie scenes icons, the biggest and best names are turning out for this evening’s event. For Usyk it’s legacy cementing and for Dubois it’s history making. Who knows which way it will go but that’s part of the intrigue right?
Dubois builds his perfect boxer
I spent some time with Daniel Dubois in early June as he started his training camp, and well, it was one hell of a day.
Now, we will get into that later, but first, I wanted to share a nice little game we played on the day.
Dubois built his perfect boxer, and well, if this was a fighter, there is no way I would want to get near them in the ring.
I only weigh 73kg and have noodles for arms, mind.
‘Dubois needs to get jab going’
Lennox Lewis, former undisputed heavyweight champion, makes his prediction to BBC Sport:
Dubois has to get that jab going, push him against the ropes and start combinations – don’t waste punches and stay eager. Remember he is the true heavyweight and needs to press him.
Usyk is the number one guy, a great boxer and a great champion. When you come you have to come with that in mind and be first and be last with your punches.
‘Father Time may get Usyk’
Eddie Hearn, boxing promoter, gives his prediction to BBC Sport:
Dubois has a real shot here. He has great confidence right now and sooner or later Father Time may get Usyk. Patriotism aside I think Usyk will drain him and stop him between rounds nine and 12.
Predictions for Usyk-Dubois?
I’m feeling a little different tonight.
Normally, I leave prediction time until just before the fight, but to heck with it, let’s pull the trigger early this evening.
Most of the people I have spoken to are siding with who many believe is the greates heavyweight of this generation, and maybe all time, Oleksandr Usyk.
I’ve only met one group of people who are backing Daniel Dubois, and they are those within his camp that I spoke to last month when I watched the Brit train.
Or am I wrong? Do you guys think Dubois can do what many perceive as unthinkable?
Let me know in the comments.
Wet night at Wembley
As somebody who lives in London, I can tell you all just how horrific the weather has been today in the capital. Honestly, it’s made me quite sad; rain always does.
It was torrential this morning, and bar a short sunny spell in the afternoon, it’s been pretty grim all day.
So if you are heading to the fight, follow the lead of these guys… bring your poncho.
What’s on the line?
Well, everything. Literally everything.
Whoever wins tonight will take home all four belts that the heavyweight division has to offer. They will be the best, and nobody could dispute it.
Now, that must be some feeling.
Oleksandr Usyk already knows what it feels like, as he took home the WBC heavyweight title, WBO heavyweight title, WBA heavyweight title, and IBF heavyweight title after beating Tyson Fury the first time last May.
But these days, only three of them are his. The IBF title is currently in the clutches of Dubois, and he is hungry for more.
Who will have all four draped over their shoulders come 11pm tonight?
Under the arch
Yes, Madison Square Garden is top class, then, of course, you simply can’t forget about Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
Both are amazing, but nowhere hosts a blockbuster bout quite as spectacularly as Wembley Stadium. I don’t know why, but fights under the arch are so special.
I have no doubt that tonight will be the very same.
Big night ahead
Look, I know you are all here for the main event, but nights like these are not just about the big bout at the end.
Tonight, we have a whopper of an undercard before Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois even get close to Wembley, let alone the ring.
We are already three fights down on this huge night, but there are still three tasty battles to come.
Vladyslav Sirenko vs. Solomon Dacres – Heavyweight
Daniel Lapin vs. Lewis Edmondson – Light heavyweight
Lawrence Okolie vs. Kevin Lerena – Heavyweight
Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois – Undisputed heavyweight championship title fight
Time for revenge?
Alexa, play Playback by James Brown… and turn that volume up!
‘The brother get ready, that’s a fact. Get ready (something quite rude that I can’t repeat) for the big payback.’
Yep, you know the lyrics. Well, if you were born before the turn of the century, I hope you would. I’m only 25, and I know it.
If I were Daniel Dubois, I’d be listening to it on repeat for every single hour taking to the ring at Wembley Stadium at 10pm tonight. That is when he will be out for payback against Oleksandr Usyk.
23 months ago, Dubois watched the Ukrainian have his hand raised in Poland after he was stopped nine rounds into what was a gruelling battle. Ever since, he has been plotting his revenge.
Well, now his time has come.
We waited years for an undisputed heavyweight championship unification fight; now we are having our second in just two years. It feels like Christmas.
Wembley is ready, I’m ready… are you ready?
It’s time to get what could be the greatest show of the year, or you never know, the decade, on the road!
