Now Brief feels wasted on phones, Samsung should bring it to TVs

If you know me, you’re likely familiar with the fact that one of my favorite Samsung devices is my Neo QLED TV. It sounds great and looks even better. It’s a perfect companion for my gaming consoles, and sometimes, I enjoy running it in Ambient Mode.

I’m often looking for the next big software update for my TV, which, by the way, should happen this week if Samsung can keep its promise. But waiting for Tizen 9 got me thinking that Samsung may have missed the target with a different kind of feature. One that debuted on mobile devices earlier this year: Now Brief.

Admittedly, I’m not a fan of the Now Brief feature in One UI 7 and later. I tried liking it, but I barely use it on my phone. Now Brief feels underdeveloped and even uninspired, and I ended up almost forgetting that it exists.

However, a few times when I had my morning coffee these past few weeks, I’ve wondered if Samsung missed an opportunity by not bringing Now Brief to its TVs.

I would have liked the option to turn on my TV in the morning and access Now Brief or listen to the Morning Brief summary while doing my morning routine.

I think it fits with Samsung’s efforts. The company is already trying to bring a more unified experience across its TVs and mobile devices. The last two major Tizen updates focus on giving the TV OS a familiar One UI look. And features like Vision AI already include image recognition tools similar to Circle to Search on mobile.

So far, there’s been no word on whether or not Now Brief will be available on Samsung TVs in the future, but I think it could complement or potentially even replace the existing Daily Board feature.

Bringing Now Brief to smart TVs seems like a natural next step. I, for one, would probably use this AI feature more often on my TV than I do on my phone. I wouldn’t mind listening to my Now Brief summary on my TV (and Q-Symphony soundbar) while doing something else around the house.

If Samsung wants TVs to feel smarter, Now Brief might be the missing piece, for now. It could be the next cool think. I think Samsung should consider this.
