NOVONIX, a leading battery technology company in Chattanooga, only has to jump through one more hoop to be permitted to build another location in town.
The Hamilton County Commission will host the final vote on the matter on Wednesday, March 12.
City Council members unanimously approved NOVONIX’s bid on Tuesday night.
This deal would give the company about 182 acres in the Enterprise South Industrial Park.
Commissioners delayed the vote in January after a round of layoffs concerned council members.
District 3 Council Member Ken Smith says conversations with Interim CEO Robert Long convinced him to say yes.
“I appreciate everything you personally have done, stepping in to this new role and ensuring clear communication about everything going on in the organization despite some of the negativity around it.”
The new facility is expected to create about 500 new jobs.
Demetrus Coonrod, representing District 9, says this boost in employment opportunities will be good for the city.
“All I see is jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs,” Coonrod said. “We need them.”
