Newcastle United are working on plans to hold their pre-season tour in Hong Kong, with matches potentially set to take place at the newly built Kai Tak Stadium, Daily Mail’s Craig Hope reported on Thursday.
The club had initially considered participating in the Premier League Summer Series in the United States but has now shifted its focus to the Far East.
“Facilities in Hong Kong have been identified and a schedule is being worked on, which it is hoped will include friendlies at the Kai Tak Sports Park complex,” Hope wrote.
A potential match against Tottenham Hotspur has been discussed, Hope reported, though no final agreements have been made.
The 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium, located in Kowloon, is set to open this weekend with a grand ceremony followed by different-nature entertainment events.
If finalized, the Hong Kong trip would provide Howe’s squad with high-level opposition in preparation for the 2025-26 campaign, with the club already having scheduled a friendly against Scottish side Celtic.
