The New York Times named the Flow Country in Caithness and Sutherland as one of the top places to visit before you die.
The Scottish spot was named alongside attractions around the globe, including Jane Austen’s home in Hampshire, Sydney in Australia and Assam in India.

Discussing the peatland in Scotland, which recently earned Unesco recognition, The New York Times said that it is “key to the fight against climate change” thanks to its position as one of the “world’s biggest carbon stores”.
Beyond its environmental importance, the destination was also dubbed a “stunning” place to see.
According to the publication, the bog system has “joined the ranks” of amazing natural sites like the Grand Canyon and the Great Barrier Reef.
