TRAINS are known to be expensive, but now there’s a way to get half price tickets – the only catch is you won’t know in advance what time it leaves the station.
Seatfrog is joining forces with trainlines to launch ‘Secret Fares’ where passengers can to save up to 50 per cent on certain routes.
With Seatfrog, Brits can travel between major cities from as little as £4 – which is the journey between Liverpool to Sheffield.
The only catch is that travellers don’t the exact time the train leaves the station before they book – but you can pick a preferred time of the day like morning, afternoon or evening.
After that, passengers will get the train details 24 hours before departure along with an electronic ticket.
Other cheap journeys include from London Waterloo to Portsmouth from £7, Norwich to Nottingham from £16, Derby to London St Pancras to £12.
Passengers can even get to wales from as little as £15 – which is the route from London Paddington to Cardiff.
Another £15 route is from London Paddington to Newport.
Or from the London station to Swansea, tickets start from £23.
They’re not a last minute deal either, you can plan ahead and book tickets up to three months in advance, and up to five days ahead of travel.
Don’t go changing your mind though as tickets are non-refundable. You also can’t use railcards with the scheme either.
If you’re travelling with other passengers, you can book together, but having seats together is not guaranteed.
Seatfrog Chief Executive Officer Iain Griffin said: “At Seatfrog, we believe in giving people the best journey for their money.”
He continued: “With this partnership with GWR, we’re taking our mission a step further – unlocking huge savings on popular routes between London and South Wales, simply by offering flexibility.
“It’s about giving people more choice: pick a date, a time-window, and enjoy travel that’s kinder to your wallet – no compromise on the experience.
“We’re excited to partner with GWR to make rail travel more accessible, more affordable, and more in tune with what passengers really want.”
