Buc-ee’s sets its sights west, opening its newest Texas location — the only one west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and, essentially, the I-35 corridor — in Amarillo next week, about two months earlier than originally expected.
The city granted economic incentives in February 2022. Following delays due to a land dispute, construction began in October 2023 at the new 27.73-acre Amarillo site, initially slated for completion in February 2025.
Like its siblings, the Amarillo Buc-ee’s will be renowned for its sprawling footprint and endless offerings, from mouthwatering brisket sandwiches to the beloved Beaver Nuggets. In fact, Buc-ee’s gas station food was recently ranked among the best in the country and the best in Texas by Eater.
While most Buc-ee’s locations are clustered in Central and East Texas, the Amarillo store marks a notable westward expansion for the brand, with only one location farther west — in Johnstown, Colorado.Conveniently situated off I-40, it provides weary road-trippers with a prime spot to refuel, refresh, and stock up on essentials. Its strategic location makes it an ideal stop for travelers navigating one of the nation’s most iconic highway routes, as they approach legendary landmarks like Route 66, the Big Texan, and Cadillac Ranch.

How many Buc-ee’s locations are there?
There are currently 62 Buc-ee locations across nine states, with 35 in Texas. The Amarillo store will be the 63rd location nationwide and the 36th in Texas.
Earlier this year, Buc-ee’s opened the world’s largest travel center at its Luling location, about 51 miles south of Austin. Spanning a massive 75,000 square feet — roughly 1.5 times the size of an NFL football field — the Luling store surpassed the previous record-holder, a Buc-ee’s in Tennessee.
