Up to 2 inches of snow is expected across the northern half of New Jersey tonight into Monday morning, while the rest of the state will see mostly rain.
Forecasters have continued to adjust snowfall projections due to subtle shifts in the storm’s track.
The latest National Weather Service prediction shows a more widespread area of 1 to 2 inches of snow north of the I-195 corridor.
“There’s a 20% chance for amounts over 2 inches,” the weather service said in an update early Sunday. “Precipitation overspreads the area from 3 to 7 p.m. and tapering off between 4 and 7 a.m. Monday.”
Snowfall totals will quickly drop for areas south of I-195 as snow will mix with rain. Southern New Jersey counties are likely to see all rain, the weather service said.
AccuWeather’s forecast map favors higher snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches through the central part of the state between I-78 and I-195, and around 1 inch of snow in northern counties.
Snow should taper off from west to east Monday morning, with conditions improving by midday as the storm moves offshore.
Monday’s forecast calls for temperatures near 40 degrees with winds around 5 to 10 mph.
Above-normal temperatures are expected by mid-week, finally breaking a prolonged cold spell that has gripped the region for over two weeks.
Highs in the mid to upper 40s and low 50s are forecast from Tuesday through Friday.
There’s two chances for precipitation this week with rain possible Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night and again Friday.
Some freezing rain or snow is possible north of I-80 with the both storms, depending on the track and timing, which remain uncertain, the weather service said. The rest of the state is likely to see rain.
