Mount Vernon crews on scene for 7 hours battling massive garage fire

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Mount Vernon Fire Department had a busy Saturday afternoon battling a massive structure fire.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 21, crews were dispatched to investigate white smoke near the County Road Department Maintenance Garage.

According to officials, when they arrived at the scene, crews located a working commercial structure fire in the maintenance garage.

With additional help from the Livingston and Brodhead fire departments and tanker support from the Western Rockcastle and Brindle Ridge fire departments, crews began battling the fire from the inside until the roof partially collapsed.

Officials said that crews used about 67,000 gallons of water, dumping water onto the garage to contain the fire.
