Monday, March 9, another risk of severe weather ignites in parts of Arkansas. Central and southern Arkansas have the chance to see severe storms from late morning/midday to early evening on Monday. Have ways to receive warning information for your location and know where your safe spot is, just in case, during this time frame on Monday.
Humidity and clouds return Sunday night into Monday morning. A small chance of a sprinkle is possible overnight in central and southern Arkansas, although not all showers on radar will reach the ground during the overnight. Lows will be very mild into Monday morning.
A level 2 out of 5 risk of severe weather has been outlined for parts of central and southern Arkansas on Monday, including communities like Little Rock, Hot Springs, Arkadelphia, Pine Bluff, El Dorado, and Texarkana. This is where the risk of severe weather is highest in the state for this event on Monday. A level 1 out of 5 risk extends a little farther north and west in the state, including communities like Heber Springs, West Memphis, Mena, Russellville, and Conway.
Hail is the main hazard with storms on Monday. Within the strongest storms, large hail will be possible. Damaging wind gusts will also be a threat, and a tornado or two can’t be ruled out. Flooding could be a concern for areas that deal with slow-moving thunderstorms, especially areas that received a lot of rain on Saturday, March 7.
The timing for Monday’s severe threat is around 10 a.m., when storms could ignite in southern and southwestern Arkansas, to the early evening.
The activity will move east of the state before sunset on Monday. Generally, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. is the window of time when severe weather is possible.
A stray shower is possible Monday night before tapering off Tuesday morning.
This is the first event in a multi-day series of severe weather chances in Arkansas. Late Tuesday into Wednesday, another round of strong to severe storms is possible.
A level 2 out of 5 risk of severe weather has been outlined in western and northwest Arkansas for Tuesday, including Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Mena, Russellville, Mountain Home, and Clinton. A level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather has been outlined for parts of central, southwestern, and northeastern Arkansas, including Little Rock, Hot Springs, Jonesboro, Pine Bluff, West Memphis, Arkadelphia, and Texarkana.
Late Tuesday into early Wednesday, showers and thunderstorms could present all modes of severe hazards, if they’re able to pop and remain relatively discrete. On Wednesday, the event becomes more of a line of showers and storms, and the risk is primarily for damaging wind gusts and flooding.
After Wednesday, cooler air arrives for Thursday, and a quieter pattern begins to end the week and possibly through the following weekend.
